Arun Jaitley tells IPS probationers, learn to fight terror

Hyderabad: Union finance minister Arun Jaitley on Friday said the nature of terrorism had changed.  Speaking after the IPS passing out parade at the National Police Academy in Hyderabad, he asked the IPS probationers to educate themselves and deploy all tools to fight terror.

“The nature of crime today is changing. It is no longer a conventional crime. Terrorism is a great curse on society. You have to deploy all models of tools in order to learn how to fight terror.

“Cyber crime, crimes involving detailed forensic analysis, narcotics, and newer areas of emerging crime, these are all the areas you have to educate yourselves while being on the job. I am sure each one of you (IPS trainees) will continue to train yourselves everyday on service,” Mr Jaitley said.

Asking the IPS probationers to hold on to values like humility and compassion in their future life, the Union minister added: “You will find many opportunities and occasions in your service and you will find yourself standing on the crossroads, just remember basic principles of life like when are you in doubt, just go straight, cutting to corners or choose the easier cause may bring you some momentary advantage but certainly not the long term advantage.”  

He added when they faced internal struggles in their future duty, they should choose the side of ethics and morality and they would less likely to err.

The minister reviewed the parade and took the general salute. He also presented trophies to the meritorious IPS officer trainees. NPA director Ms Aruna Bahuguna earlier administered the oath to the IPS Probationers.

In all, 109 IPS probationers, including 26 lady officers, six officers from the Royal Bhutan Police Service, five from the Nepal Police Service and four from the Maldives Police Service completed 45 weeks of rigorous training.
