Bengaluru: The state government on Saturday decided to use plastic material while giving a facelift to roads in Bengaluru city.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting chaired by CM  Siddaramaiah.

BBMP Commissioner, Manjunath Prasad, told the media that local authorities had seized one lakh kg of plastic material and imposed a fine of Rs 1.67 crore. Since BBMP lacked powers to register cases, a proposal was sent to the Centre  in this regard. With no response from New Delhi, BBMP decided to use plastic material while giving a fresh coat to roads within Bengaluru. Minister K J George, principal secretary, urban development, Mahendra Jain, and Mayor Sampath Raj attended the meeting.
