BJP sends soil from 11,000 AP villages to Delhi for Amrita Vanam
Vijayawada: Over 900 BJP workers left for New Delhi on Sunday, carrying soil from 11,000 villages in Andhra Pradesh for the Amrita Vanam programme.
Andhra Pradesh BJP president Daggubati Purandeswari flagged off the special train at Vijayawada station. She said the soil would be used for a ceremony in Delhi.
Purandeswari said the soil was stored in urns and a ‘shobha yatra’ was organised. She explained soil from all 929 mandals in the state was collected.
She said there was a positive response to the Amrita Vanam programme, which falls under the central government’s 'Meri Mati Mera Desh' campaign aiming to celebrate India's soil and valour.
BJP national secretary Y. Satyakumar, former MLC P.V.N. Madhav, in charge of the programme, and BJP state vice president Vetukuri Suryanarayana Raju, BJP state general secretaries Sannareddy Dayakar Reddy, Bitra Sivannarayana and Garapati Sitaramanjaneya Chaudhary, BJP state vice president Chandu Sambasiva Rao, state secretary Nagothu Ramesh Naidu and others were present.
