Chennai: In a rare gesture, former union minister and PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss has appreciated the state government for releasing the new draft syllabus. He praised the effort after handing over his suggestions to improve the syllabus here on Tuesday.

He handed over the feedback on behalf of PMK to the school education secretary T. Udhayachandran who is overseeing the syllabus revision work at DPI campus. “The new syllabus should empower the state board students to perform well in entrance exams like IIT JEE. Last year thirty-seven students from the state board alone shortlisted after JEE (Advanced) exam”, he told reporters after the meeting. “The upgraded syllabus and quality education should result in reverse migration i.e. the students from private schools should come to government schools”.

He also urged the government to simplify the Tamil syllabus and exam to make it more attractive to the students. “Students from the state are taking languages like French or Sanskrit to score high marks. So, the difficulty level in Tamil should be brought down. School education department should also teach English accent and pronunciation to the students to excel in interviews”, he suggested.

He further said that the history subject should include the extensive history of Tamil Nadu and it should also have the political history of the state. “The higher secondary education should empower the children with various skills”.
