Chennai: Putting the speculation on poll alliances to rest, DMK president and leader of Opposition M.K. Stalin confirmed the alliances of MDMK and VCK and put the blame on the state government stating that Karnataka had gone to such an extent to construct Mekadatu dam across the Cauvery river and it is utter failure of state government.

Stalin replied to a volley of questions after meeting MDMK general secretary, Vaiko at DMK headquarters on Wednesday. “The DMK has invited leaders from Congress, MDMK, Left, IMUL, VCK and MMK to discuss and oppose the construction of Mekadatu dam on Thursday,” he said during a question.

“VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan met me on Tuesday and today (Wednesday), Vaiko called on me. Even our party treasurer Durai Murugan already participated in a conference conducted by MDMK, while I have also assured of participating in a conference, which would be conducted by VCK,” Stalin said, while questioning whether MDMK and VCK remained in DMK’s alliance.

The DMK president also thanked the media for caring about DMK’s alliances.

On Sterlite issue, Stalin said that he already urged the government in the Assembly to convene a cabinet meeting and pass a strong resolution. “The state government should not merely remain as passive on this issue and it should keep an eye and wage legal battle, if necessary,” the LoP noted.
