Thiruvananthapuram: The discussions on the adjournment motion on the Sabarimala issue moved by Congress member V. S. Sivakumar on Wednesday turned out to be a game of political debate with both the opposition and the chief minister accusing each other of conspiring with the BJP for political gains.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan while replying to the notice said that the Congress had fallen into the trap set by the BJP by echoing the agenda of the Sangh Parivar in the Sabarimala issue. As a result, a sizable section of Congress voters shifted to the BJP camp, he said.

He said that even the Kerala High Court had supported the rules now in force at Sabarimala.

"Sabarimala won't be allowed to become an Ayodhya. As a party which had an agenda opposite to that of the Congress, weakening the Congress was definitely an agenda of the CPM. However, they did not want to weaken the Congress by aiding the growth of the BJP as alleged by Congress leaders," he said.

Earlier while answering questions during the question hour, he informed the house that the police had sought RSS leader Valsan Thillankery's co-operation to avoid any mishaps following intensified protests.

"Several actions were taken in an emergency so that the devotees will not get disrupted. The police always had complete control at Sabarimala," he claimed.

As many as 320 persons were arrested in 38 cases related to attack of women and media persons in Sabarimala, he said.
