Bengaluru: The city traffic police and civic agencies are planning to meet to discuss about allotting time for road works, as it is causing major traffic hurdles when carried out during the day.

The road works by the civic agencies like BBMP, BWSSB, Bescom or any other agency during the day is affecting the peak hour traffic. The traffic police have written several letters and even discussed the issue during meetings and even informed higher-ups but in vain.

Senior traffic police officers said that the road works carried out during the day affect the traffic flow and want civic agencies to ensure that the works are carried out after 11 pm till 5 am.

A senior police officer said, “Major road works like white topping can be excluded as the entire road is blocked. But minor works, like digging up part of the road to lay pipes or cables or to repair something, should be carried out during the night and not in the morning.”

He said, “The vehicular movement gets affected severely even if a part of the road is blocked. We will call a meeting with all civic agencies at the earliest to decide on it, as it is necessary, keeping in mind the increase in traffic flow in the city during peak hours.”

Another officer said that they will fix the date after getting approval of senior police officers and then fix the date with the civic agencies. “Already, we have informed the civic agencies to submit a letter before taking up road works, so that route diversion or traffic movement can be altered according to the convenience of motorists,” he said.
