Rajyotsava honour for Congress veteran 'Margaret Alva'
Official sources said the awards would be given at a function scheduled to be held here on Thursday evening.
BENGALURU: Former Union minister and veteran Congress leader, Margaret Alva, former chief justice of India, Justice H.L. Dattu and former Olympics sprinter Kenneth Lawrence Powell are among those chosen by the state government for Rajyotsava awards on Wednesday.
Official sources said the awards would be given at a function scheduled to be held here on Thursday evening.
The announcement of these awards as well as their distribution was delayed due to various reasons: First, bypolls to three Lok Sabha and two Assembly constituencies, and subsequent three-day mourning announced by the state government as a mark of respect for Union minister H N Ananth Kumar who passed away in the city on November 12. For the first time, distribution of these awards has been delayed by more than 20 days, as every year they are given away on November 1.
