Moderate to heavy rains lash Cauvery delta, CG saves 2 fishers

Tiruchy: Many parts Cuvery delta region including Tiruchy, Karur, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Tiruvarur, and Nagapattinam districts have been experiencing moderate to heavy rains since Wednesday evening, affecting normal life of the people.
Tiruchy and its suburbs experienced overnight downpour and since this morning, there was intermittent rains which resulted in inundation of low-lying areas. Pedestrians and two-wheeler riders felt severely hampered by the stagnant water.

Two cows died due in lightning strike at Koozaiyankadu village amid heavy rains last evening. Sources said at least 20 television sets and a number of ceiling fans were severely damaged due to lighting in and around Gandarvakottai area Karur, Perambalur, Tiruvarur and Ariyalur districts also received good rains since last evening.
Despite heavy rains, fishermen of Nagapattinam district ventured into the sea today, even as salt production was hit in Vedaranyam area in the district.
One fisherman was found missing, while two others were rescued when a fiber boat capsized in rough sea where Kaduvaiyaru joins the sea near Nagapattinam port on Thursday.
Police said three fishermen, Velayutham, Mukunthan and Murugavel of Seva Bharathinagar in Keechangkuppam fishermen's hamlet put out to sea in the wee hours of Thursday. They were on their way back to the shore when the rough sea toppled the boat along with its men.
However, Coast Guard personnel rescued Velayutham and Mukunthan from the sea and sent them to Government headquarters hospital for treatment. The search for the missing fisherman is on, police added.
