Bengaluru: With just two days left for depositing the scrapped Rs 1000 and Rs 500 notes, the run for cash seems to have eased slightly in Bengaluru as shorter queues were seen outside ATMs and banks on Wednesday. However, the ATMs in most parts of the city are still running woefully dry making people run from one ATM to another to get the elusive cash. Most ATMs continued to be non-functional, as was the case in initial days after the Nov. 8 demonetisation.

Sources in both nationalised and private banks said more than half of the ATMs in the city are still non-functional due to the shortage of cash. Non availability of adequate Rs 500 new currencies is causing inconvenience. “We have completed the process of calibration. But as new notes are not available in enough number we are not depositing them in the ATMs. This has made the ATMs non functional,” said a senior officer.
