Lawyers mull plea against HC split
The meeting was held at the Association Hall in the High Court premises on Friday.
Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh High Court Advocates Association and the Telangana High Court Advocates Association held separate General Body meetings in order to discuss and chalk out the plans over the issues that arise after separating the High Courts for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh following the notification from President of India.
The meeting was held at the Association Hall in the High Court premises on Friday.
Expressing displeasure over the summary of the Gazette about the functioning of the AP High Court from January 1, 2019, the advocates from AP have made a unanimous resolution in the extraordinary general body meeting to move a Special Leave Petition on an emergency basis before the Supreme Court for extension of time for another three months to operationalise the AP High Court.
The advocates said that they should have been intimated about the constitution of the new High Court well in advance, so that they would have made necessary arrangements for their stay, but they were given only five days to move to a new place.
As the Supreme Court is on vacation till January 1, the AP advocates Association is planning to move an emergency petition before the vacation Judge of the Supreme Court. They said that they only need an extension of time for shifting, but do not want to challenge the notification.
In the meeting held by the Telangana High Court Advocates, the association members decided to make representations to the High Court for a recall of the list of the panel, sent by the Common High Court, with recommendations of elevating seven judicial officers as High Court Judges under service quota.
The Telangana advocates said that none of the seven officers hails from the state, but three of them have chosen Telangana as an option to work. They decided to meet the Judges Committee on the bifurcation of the High Court employees to bring to their notice that allocation should be based on the nativity.
