Hyderabad: In view of the rising concern over online trolling, students are being sensitized on behavioural issues. Counseling is done for them on their overall personality development, said director of IIT Hyderabad, Prof. BS Murty.
"An IIT Hyderabad graduate who had a history of online trolling with multiple accounts was arrested last month over the rape threats he held out to cricketer Virat Kohli's daughter. Apart from the core courses, several courses in our curricula focus on educating the psychological aspects with assistance from counselors,” he said.
Addressing the media on Tuesday, Prof Murty said the national education policy will bring about revolutionary changes. “We need to implement multidisciplinary academics, striking a balance between traditional engineering programmes and the new age technologies – artificial intelligence and machine learning – to sustain industry needs,” he said.
Reflecting on the institute’s performance, he said as many as 80 new start-ups were added in the last two years. “Despite the challenge posed by the Covid pandemic, we witnessed a fruitful year with world-class research, academic advancement and best-ever placement season.”
The institute has not been plying fuel-based vehicles for transportation on the 600-acre campus for the past few months. "We have been using electric vehicles on the campus. We will soon test our own electric vehicles developed by a team of faculty and students."
