Rain likely to dampen New Year fete in South AP
Private weather websites said the rains might continue into the New Year for two more days
Visakhapatnam: Rain may play spoilsport in south coastal Andhra Pradesh districts of Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor and parts of northern Tamil Nadu during the New Year, according to IMD, Amaravati, on Tuesday.
IMD director S. Stella said due to easterly winds, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely to occur at isolated places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh from December 31 to January 2.
Private weather websites said the rains might continue into the New Year for two more days bringing down the day temperature which had shot up during the last three days.
Stella told DC that the northeasterly winds, which brought down the temperature, stopped during the last three days and southeasterly and southern winds were blowing in the region. The temperature gradually went up every day by one degree Celsius.
She said the minimum temperature which was 13 degrees Celsius in Vijayawada last week went up by 7 degrees and recorded 20 degrees on Tuesday. A similar trend was seen on the entire coast.
In the agency areas of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari, the minimum temperature went up by two to three degrees.
