Chennai: In a trendsetter verdict, the Madras high court has acquitted a young engineer sentenced to life by the trial court for killing his five-year-old son and trying to hang himself out of depression caused by the death of his wife in a car accident and the string of setbacks that followed.
A division bench comprising Justices M. Jaichandran and S Nagamuthu leaned heavily upon the crucial evidence and expert opinion given to it by a government psychiatrist who had treated the murder accused, A Steepen, while being held in remand custody at the Government Royapettah Hospital.
