Educational institutes await NIRF ranking
Over 2,700 institutions have applied to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the India Rankings 2017.
Chennai: The higher educational institutions in the state are eagerly awaiting the second edition of the national rankings scheduled to be released by Union ministry of human resource development on Monday (April 3).
Over 2,700 institutions have applied to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the India Rankings 2017, fewer than 800 participants compared to last year. Along with the universities, engineering colleges, management institutions, the revamped ranking framework has included medical and law colleges this year for the ranking.
The NIRF ranks the institutions using five broad parameters — teaching learning resources, research and professional practice, outreach and inclusivity, graduation outcomes and perception.
During the previous year, IIT Madras came as the top-ranked institute in the country in engineering (research and teaching) closely followed by IIT Bombay.
When asked whether IIT Madras can retain its number one position, Bhaskar Ramamurthi, director of the institute, said, "It's a close competition.”
