Kerala: Hurt triple jumper awaits help from government

His expenses came around Rs 2.5 lakh, but the government paid not even a single penny.

Kottayam: Triple jumper Renjith Maheshwary,  injured ahead of Commonwealth Games, is resting at Panamattom house near here.  His knee got damaged in Patiala on March 8 at the preliminary rounds of the Federation Cup, considered a precursor to the Commonwealth event.  Mr Maheshwari, who represented the country in various international competitions, has to undergo surgery to fix a bone fracture at the Atlanta Mediworld, New Delhi.

His expenses came around Rs 2.5 lakh, but the government paid not even a single penny.  “Kerala Sports Council president T.P. Dasan rang me up and offered to foot the bills after the news spread,” he told DC. The doctors advised him for next six weeks' rest, and he could resume practice only after few months of physiotherapy. Earlier on Thursday, Kottayam MLA Thiruva-nchoor Radhakrishnan had visited him offering financial assistance.
