Lignite conveyor inaugurated in Neyveli
The new conveyor system was inaugurated at the upcoming NNTPS and this would transport lignite from Mine-1A.
Chennai: Chairman cum managing director, NLC India Limited, Dr Sarat Kumar Acharya, inaugurated a giant lignite conveyor system in NLCIL, Neyveli on Thursday.
In a release, the NLCIL stated that the NLC India Limited, Neyveli, contributes major power needs of Tamil Nadu through its four Thermal Power Stations. The lignite (raw material) required for these thermal power stations is obtained from Mine-I, Mine-II and Mine-1A.
In an effort to meet the growing power requirement, the NLCIL is planned to set up a new thermal power station - “Neyveli New Thermal Power Station” (NNTPS), with a total power capacity of 1000 Mega Watt (2X500 MW) of power.
The new conveyor system was inaugurated at the upcoming NNTPS and this would transport lignite from Mine-1A.
Inaugurating the system at Mine-1A on Thursday, Dr Sarat Kumar Acharya said the measures should be taken to control costs of all the projects. The Mine-1A was set an example by saving an expenditure of about Rs 300 crore.
Subir Das, Director (Mines) of NLCIL said, 2000 mm long conveyor would transport lignite excavated from Mine-1A. The lignite would travel about 6.12 km from Mine-1 Stockyard to NNTPS Stockyard. The conveyor system was inaugurated before commissioning of NNTPS, he said. The Directors, Rakesh Kumar, Subir Das, V. Thangapandian, P. Selvakumar, R. Vikraman and senior officials and unions/ associations have attended the function.
