Last day to pay property tax with rebate, no extension
If there is no physical change in the property, the property tax amount submitted last year can be paid.
Bengaluru: With just a day left for the property owners to get a 5 per cent rebate on property tax, BBMP authorities are urging citizens to avail of the opportunity and pay the tax.
The Karnataka Municipal Corporation (KMC) Act, 1976, allows extension of 5 per cent rebate for 30 days. Later, full property tax has to be paid by May 30. Normally, during the BBMP Council meeting a unanimous decision is taken to extend the rebate by a month or two. But this time, the last date to avail the rebate cannot be extended as the Model Code of Conduct is in place due to the ongoing parliamentary polls.
A senior revenue official from the BBMP said that the process of paying property tax has been simplified and can be paid online from anywhere. Moreover, owners don’t have to approach the BBMP office or even banks. Only if a property owner wishes to pay through challan, he has to approach the banks that are linked with BBMP.
BBMP’s official website www.bbmpbangalore.gov.in that is linked for property tax payment is user friendly for paying property tax, he said.
A property owner has the option of entering Property Identification (PID) number or base Self Assessment Scheme (SAS) application number or name. If there are no physical changes in the property, the property tax amount submitted last year can be paid. Once the online payment is over, it gives an option of downloading the receipt. It is simple and prevents property owners from running to the BBMP office, the official said.
Since April 30 is the last day, the server may get overloaded towards the evening as many people would be trying to pay the tax. Hence, BBMP authorities have suggested that the tax be paid at the earliest. Property tax paid from June will attract a penalty of 2 per cent on the tax payable, sources said.
