Nellore: 3 cops, inspector held in train robbery case
The trio robbed Rs 50L from a woman taking the cash to buy gold.
Nellore: The Government Railway Police, on Monday, arrested three constables and a reserve inspector of AP Special Protection Force for their role behind a recent robbery in Navajeevan Express. The railway police recovered Rs 30 lakh from the accused.
The GRP already arrested a couple involved in the case and seized Rs 20 lakh out of the total Rs 50 lakh stolen from the train.
The constables and RI, along with one Marri Ravi of Chennayapalem in Kavali mandal, robbed Rs 50 lakh posing as police from one Marriboina Anitha when she was carrying the cash to Chennai while travelling in Navajeevan Express, a few days ago, to buy gold for some Kavali-based traders.
Though Anitha was hand-in-glove with the accused in the robbery and tipped off about her movements to Ravi, her partner, she lodged a complaint with the railway police in Gudur after the incident.
However, the railway police established her links with Ravi and held both of them, two days ago.
The police team, led by GRP CI G. Dasaradha-rama Rao, nabbed the APSPF constables, Chintanaboina Mahesh, Shaik Sultan Basha, Vonteru Suman Kumar and RI Pilli Mallikarjuna Rao.
All of them are connected to the Venkatagiri Battalion.
