Stay hydrated, say doctors
The most vulnerable groups are children and elders who are easily affected by the heat.
Hyderabad: In view of the ongoing heat wave, and fears that the temperature could climb higher this summer, doctors have advised people to be careful and avoid going out during the day.
Doctors said people must consume a lot of water to stay hydrated. If they happen to feel dehydrated, they should consume water mixed with salt and lemon rather than commercially beverages. The most vulnerable groups are children and elders who are easily affected by the heat.
Dr Aftab Ahmed, general physician at Apollo Hospitals, said, “The symptoms of heatstroke are that the core body temperature increases, the patient could faint or experience headache, dizziness, red, hot and dry skin, muscle weakness or cramps, nausea and vomiting.”
Doctors say the best way escape sunstroke was to stay away from the heat and cover the body with white or light colour cotton cloth. The head and the face must be covered and goggles must be used to protect the eyes from the heat. Dehydration is observed when there is a deficiency of electrolyte. Beverages can’t provide electrolytes to the human body Dr Ahmed said.
The most vulnerable groups are children and elders who will be affected easily by the heat. People on medication are also vulnerable. Doctors suggest these should be more careful and must avoid going out during the hottest part of the day.
