Hyderabad: Former Union Minister and Telugu Desam parliamentarian Y. Sujana Chowdary has approached the Telangana High Court challenging the notices issued to him by the CBI, Bengaluru, asking him to appear before them on May 4 in a case related to Best & Crompton Engineering Projects Ltd, Chennai.

Mr Chowdary on Monday filed the petition seeking to set aside the notices issued by the CBI for his appearance as being unconstitutional. He argued that the notices under section 160 and 161 of the CrPC can be issued only within the territorial limits of the investigation agency and the Central Bureau of Investigation, Bengaluru, has jurisdiction only in the territorial limits of Karnataka state and he is a resident of New Delhi and Hyderabad.

He also said in his petition that he is neither a shareholder nor a director in Best & Crompton Engineering Projects Ltd, Chennai.

Investigations by the CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) revealed that former employees of the Sujana Group of companies, owned by Mr Chowdary have been appointed directors of the shell firms through which the loan taken by Best & Crompton was funnelled into Mahal Hotels, a bogus firm part of the Sujana group.
