Create circle-inspector post in every station: DGP Loknath Behera
According to sources, fiscal crunch of the government is the major hindrance in creating CI posts in the 268 police stations.
THIRUVANANATHAPURAM: State police chief Loknath Behera has suggested to the government that circle-inspector (CI) posts could be created in all police stations without causing much additional fiscal burden to the government as many very senior sub-inspectors (SIs) were still drawing salaries almost on par with that of CIs. After the government decided to make CIs as SHOs in all police stations in a phased manner from January, CIs are station house officers (SHOs) only in 203 police stations, while the 268 police stations were only having sub-inspectors as SHOs.
According to sources, fiscal crunch of the government is the major hindrance in creating CI posts in the 268 police stations. Hence the SPC mooted that the new reform could be implemented without much fiscal liabilities as many SIs are very senior and drawing salaries almost on par with that of CIs. The government is yet to take a decision on the matter. Meanwhile, police sources said that there was considerable improvement in the functioning of the police stations where CIs were made SHO. Bifurcation of crime and law and order and giving charge of each wing to an SI was one of the major aims in making CIs SHOs.
