Kummanam Rajasekharan takes oath as Mizoram Governor
Congress leader Vakkam Purushothaman had served as the Governor of Mizoram from 2011 to 2014.
Thiruvananthapuram: Mr Kummanam Rajasekharan was sworn in as the Governor of Mizoram at the Raj Bhavan in Aizwal on Tuesday. Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Ajit Singh administered the oath of office to him at 11 a.m. Mr Kummanam, the 23rd Governor of Mizoram, was clad in his traditional attire of a khadi jacket, white shirt and white dhoti. Congress leader Vakkam Purushothaman had served as the Governor of Mizoram from 2011 to 2014.
Three central BJP leaders from New Delhi attended the function along with Mizoram Chief Minister Lalthanhawla and other ministers belonging to the Congress party. Later, Mr Kummanam received a guard of honour by the police. The People’s Representation Entity Status of Mizoram (PRESM) and Global Council of Indian Christians (GCIC) had staged a protest on Monday against the appointment of a hardcore RSS leader as the Governor. His predecessor Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Nirbhay Sharma had completed his tenure on Monday.
