CHENNAI: DMK chief M. Karunanidhi on Wednesday condemned the police for failing to arrest the murderer of  IT employee Swathi and urged the police officer to protect people.

He alleged that police are more keen on monitoring the activities of the opposition parties than protecting the public. There were no policemen in Nungambakkam railway station and there was no CCTV camera too, he said, citing the judges of the Madras HC. In the Chennai region alone, 300 railway police vacancies remain unfilled, leading to lack of protection in the station, he added.
