AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi was shot when on padayatra
Mohammed Pahelwan, arrived with his supporters on bikes carrying deadly weapons and allegedly attacked Mr Owaisi.
Hyderabad: In a major setback to the police, the VII Additional Metropolitan Sessions court on Thursday acquitted Mohammed Bin Omer Yafai alias Mohammed Pahelwan, the main accused in the attack on AIMIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi.
On April 30, 2011, MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is also the AIMIM floor leader in the Assembly, was attacked by 15 persons with knives, swords, a pistol and some country-made weapons and suffered multiple injuries. The incident took place when he was on a padayatra in the Barkas area.
Mr Owaisi was accompanied by some 50 party activists, Malakpet MLA Ahmed Balala and Barkas corporator Mansoor Bin Mohammed Awalgi.
When Mr Owaisi reached the Peeli Dargah, an argument broke out between him and Younus Bin Omer Yafai, the resident of a house next to the dargah.
During the argument, Mr Owaisi allegedly threatened that he would get the Yafais evicted as they had encroached on government land.
While the argument was going on, the prime accused, Mohammed Pahelwan, arrived with his supporters on bikes carrying deadly weapons and allegedly attacked Mr Owaisi.
Mr Owaisi was stabbed in the stomach and also had bullet injuries, Mohammed Jani, the personal security officer of MLA Balala, opened fire with his revolver and shot at the attackers.
Ibrahim Bin Yafai, who was the nephew of Mohammed Pahelwan, who was also shot at, died of his injuries.
