Hyderabad: Hyderabad schools asked the traffic cops to post personnel outside every school in the city, during a meeting here on Thursday. Rejecting the request, the traffic police said schools should hire security guards for the safety of students and traffic management in front of the school.

The police and schools discussed various issues regarding the security of students, overcrowded autorickshaws, parking at schools and staggering of timings in areas with many schools, during a road safety awareness orogramme conducted by the traffic police with school managemnts, transport, GHMC and RTC officials.

The traffic police said it would send notices to all the schools asking them to deploy security guards to guide children to ensure road safety and transportation. School were asked to install CCTV cameras.

DCP, traffic. A.V. Ranga-nath said, “We will try to deploy traffic personnel near the schools but it will be difficult to cover all the schools.” He said schools that did not have open space for parking had been asked to lease open land nearby to avoid traffic issues near the schools. He said a few schools could come together and take a open space together for parking.

Mr G. Surender Kumar of Grammar High School said, “Our school faces traffics issue as adjacent schools have no parking space. The traffic police suggested staggering of school timings in coordination with nearby schools, which seems to be a nice idea to ensure free flow of traffic.”

Police said it autorickshaws carrying students must be allowed to enter the school premises for students to get down.
