Hyderabad: Water leakage from an underground pipeline led to a caving of a small part of the Shapur-Jeedimetla highway on Friday. The road was recently laid as a part of Mission Bhagiratha. No one was injured in the cave-in which occurred on the busy road. Jeedimetla traffic inspector K. Satyanarayana said, “At about 7 pm, the road caved in for about 10 metres, causing a mild traffic jam.” Traffic police responded immediately and installed barricade to prevent unwary motorists from falling into the pit.

Officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) reached the spot and later filled the gap with stones and mud. “The restoration work was completed by 6,30 pm” an official said. Motorists blamed the contractors for their poor work, and said they had to take a long detour during the busy hours.
