Chennai: Man reunited with family after six years
A Ramanathapuram-based Home for Children rescued the man and provided rehabilitation.
Chennai: A 21-year-old mentally-challenged youth from Kancheepuram boarded a train to Ramanathapuram by mistake and has been at a handicapped school since 2013. On Friday, he has reunited with his family after six years with the efforts made by the Kancheepuram SP and his special team of anti-child trafficking unit.
According to sources, Anbarasu ( 21), mentally retarded, and son of Rengaswami and Lakshmi, coolie workers, went missing from his village in 2013.
A Ramanathapuram-based Home for Children rescued the man and provided rehabilitation. He had no memory of how or when he came to the district. The couple lodged a complaint with the Kancheepuram and police continued the search for the boy but could not locate him.
However, in 2018, Kancheepuram superintendent of police Santhosh Hadimani transferred the case to the anti-trafficking unit police. A special team was formed and the team visited various homes in the state to identify the boy and finally, they spotted him in the home in Ramanathapuram.
The special team contacted his family and informed them about their son who has been rescued from the home. Police said they were overwhelmed to have finally located him. After conducting a DNA test, on Friday, Anbarasu was handed over to his family.
