Citizens for Bengaluru to rate and award corporators
Alavalli explained that ward committees have the potential to change how our city is governed with active citizen participation.
Bengaluru: With an intention to appreciate the work done by the corporators, Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) has announced “Namma Samiti Puraskaara, Corporator Number”.
Sharing more details about this award, Srinivas Alavilli, Co-founder, CfB, said, “It is natural to complain and criticize the issues we face every day. But our city has many great things to be grateful for.”
Alavalli explained that ward committees have the potential to change how our city is governed with active citizen participation. We already saw great signs of this in many wards. As responsible citizens we must take the time to celebrate the good work. This was the reason behind this concept of honouring the corporators, he added.
Tara Krishnaswamy, co-founder of CfB said that the main objective of 'Namma Samiti Puraskaara' is to make it clear that a corporator's performance in a Ward Committee is directly connected to the people's satisfaction.
The citizens can be free and honest critics while selecting the corporators, who will rate their respective wards, Ms Tara said.
The corporators will be nominated on various parameters such as footpaths, garbage management, tree cover, parks and public spaces, public toilets, water supply, road maintenance, street lights and rainwater harvesting.
For this voting procedure, the citizens do not have any criteria like voter ID, age barrier etc, except for being residents of Bengaluru. One can opt for online voting at citizensforbengaluru.in, or go for ground voting system.
The award ceremony will be held on July 14 at Town Hall and the best corporators will be honored by Justice Santosh Hegde, theatre personality Prakash Belawadi and other Bengaluru icons.
