Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has directed the registrar of the Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalg-onda, to continue the ser-vices of part-time lecturers till they are replaced by regular lecturers.

Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavli gave this direction while hearing a writ petition filed by Ms M. Indira Devi and 17 other part-time lecturers who were aggrieved by the university’s decision to issue a fresh notification for recruitment to their posts. They sought a stay on all further proceedings and a direction to the registrar to continue them in their posts.

Petitioners’ counsel N.S. Arjun Kumar said that the university was seeking to replace the petitioners with another set of part-time lecturers which was against the Supreme Court rulings in a number of cases that one temporary employee cannot be replaced by another temporary empl-oyee as long as the sche-me or necessity of the post continues. They can be replaced only by way of regular recruitment.
