PWD, Kerala Water Authority officials face fire

KOCHI: People’s representatives from Ernakulam district came out heavily against the officialdom in the Public Works Department and Kerala Water Authority on Saturday in the district development council meeting chaired by Additional District Magistrate K Chandrasekharan Nair. The officials should abandon their lethargy and take proactive measures to resolve the problems brou-ght forward by the representatives of the people.
A section of the contractors involved in deliberately delaying the completion of works of PWD and KWA should be blacklisted, Eldho Abraham, MLA, pointed out.
The officials in the major and minor irrigation departments are treating government as their family vocation, he said.
The MLA also alleged that the fund provided by MPs from outside Kerala for flood relief has been disbursed without any yardsticks.
Roji John, MLA, from Angamaly wanted the officials to accept the application forms for flood relief on Sunday too. K.J. Maxi, MLA, from Kochi stated that a section of officials are adopting an anti-people attitude.
The mistakes in Chellanam Panchayat are example of the failures on the part of the officialdom.
V.P. Sjaeendran, MLA, from Kunnathunadu highlighted the need for speeding up the road construction work in the constituency.
Eldhose Kunnappally, MLA, from Perumbavoor said the failure to start the work on the Keezhillam-Paniyeli Road even after the allocation of funds from KIFFB is an example of the lethargy of the officials.
The mammogram unit in Perumbavoor Taluk hospital remaining dysfunctional due to the lack of technician needed to be resolved, he added.
Gracy Joseph, councilor of Kochi Corporation, representing the civic body, has sought to convene a meeting for the construction of Thammanam-Pulleppady Road. The ADM has directed the officials to take prompt action to resolve problems raised by representatives of the people.
