Bengaluru: In Bengaluru heavy incessant rains since Thursday night brought traffic chaos and caused flooding of streets, crippling normal life in several parts of the city. There were also reports of people fishing in some waterlogged areas.

People of South Bengaluru had a miserable Thursday night and Friday as the rain left at least 10 apartment basements flooded and saw the water level rise from knee-deep to waist-deep in areas like Bilekahalli, Kodichikkanahalli, and Anugrahanagar, forcing locals to move to the upper floors of their homes and buildings early Friday morning.

Many spent hours scooping out water from their homes with buckets and utensils and pumping out water from their basements in  Kodichikkanahalli, Madivala and Kodichikkanahalli. The nightmare continued Friday too as the rain threw normal life out of gear.

“I had  planned to drop my daughter in school and go to office early to make a presentation that I had prepared for over a week. But all my plans were washed out,” lamented a resident, observing that a city like Bengaluru should not be subjected to such disastrous floods. “Where is the tax payers’ money going? he asked angrily.

The city witnessed overflowing lakes and drainages coupled with uprooted trees, compounding woes of the people with submerged low-lying areas.
