Hyderabad: Prof. Rama Melkote, a former teacher at Osmania University, and two others have moved a PIL before the High Court seeking a direction to the AP government to conduct a fresh investigation into the murder of B. Pharmacy student Ayesha Meera in view of the acquittal of prime accused P. Satyam Babu.

They said that they had twice represented the matter to the AP government after the High Court had on March 31, 2017, acquitted Mr Satyam Babu, who had been convicted for life, and slapping Rs 1 lakh costs on police for their lapses in the probe and booking an innocent who was physically handicapped and a Dalit. They had got no response.

They submitted that only an unbiased and transparent probe into the killing of Ayesha on December 27, 2007, would help nail the culprits.

They urged the court to direct the AP government to refer the police officers responsible for booking Mr Satyam Babu to the apex committee which was constituted to assess their lapses in investigating the cases.
