Hyderabad: Social media has become a de facto grievance cell for the university students as they would rather depend on it to resolve their problems than on the official grievance cells in every department of the university.

Students prefer to share their problems on social media instead of approaching any grievance cell due to the time taken in addressing the problems.

Compounded to this is the long list of pending cases already with the cells. So taking the social media route is by far the most useful alternative, claim students.

Students happily vent their anger and their problems on social networking sites. This way they feel, the message reaches more people and in most of the cases it gets heard faster too.

According to students, when they post their grievance on social media or in online forums, the concerned people react faster.

Therefore there are chances that the problem is resolved faster. These days students take to social networking even before approaching the students’ union which was their only hope earlier.

Kuldeep Singh Negi, a student from UoH said, “While finding a solution may take time, at least this way we get a response from the administration and an update on whether they are working on the problem or not. But when we approach the grievance cells our problems are never solved.”

He added, “Mostly, it’s issues related to a faculty member or administration that go unsolved. Small issues get a quicker response but complaints against faculty are almost never resolved. Therefore students prefer to post their issues on social media or online forums to get a quicker response.”
