Hyderabad: The carcasses of about 100 pigs and three cows were found at a waste dump yard in Vinayak Nagar in Medchal district near the city.

Two persons, Mr Samudram Muthyalu and Samudram Raju, claimed that the animals had been poisoned by unidentified persons on Saturday morning, leading to their death.

The poison had been mixed with the feed that is given to cattle, they told the police.

Medchal inspector S. Venkat Reddy said. “We have booked a case under IPC 429. The search for the accused is going on as we haven’t been able to gather any information about the people from the complainants.”

He said the complaint was being taken very seriously because so many animals were killed.

It was not clear if previous enmity with the owners led to the act, or it was done out of fear of the ongoing raids on pig rearing units that have been taken up in Hyderabad.
