Adilabad: Farmers are now opting for ‘double daura’ (daura means removal of weeds in the fields) that involves weeding with a single pair of bullocks between three lanes of plants by two persons in one go. Owners themselves are taking part in the weeding. Most of the banks have failed to disburse crop loans to the farmers in time and also in achieving their set targets as far as crop loan disbursement is concerned. Owners of the agriculture land are now preferring ‘double daura’ these days by engaging two persons in weeding operations.

Generally, a single person weeds the fields, pressing a pair of bullocks but these days the trend has seen a change. The double daura trend is gaining ground among the farming community who are facing acute distress due to absence of crop loans from the banks. Rythu Swarajya Vedika district president Sangepu Borranna said that some of the farmers have started double daura in their own agriculture fields and added that it is easier only when cotton plants are small unlike other crops.

“With the double daura, weeding in two lanes will be completed in a single go. This reduces the per head labour cost,” he said, as the agriculture labour charges about Rs 1,000 per head per day for ‘daura’ in the agriculture field.”
