Kochi: Man held for death threat to Meesa' author

Kochi: Perumbavoor police on Monday arrested a 39-year-old on charges of issuing a death threat to writer S. Harish, the author of the novel ‘Meesha’ (Moustache) last week.

The arrested was identified as Suresh Babu, hailing from Iringolekavu, Perumbavoor.

Acting on a tip off, a police team led by circle inspector Baiju Paulose apprehended the accused from his residence near Iringolkavu.

Officials said Suresh Babu was wanted in a case registered by the Ettumanoor police. He was handed over to the Ettumanoor police later on the day.

The novel which was being serialised in Mathrubhumi weekly was later withdrawn after Hareesh’s family allegedly received threats from some Hindutva outfits. Later, many eminent persons including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan came in support of the writer following his decision to withdraw the novel.
