Sanjay Kumar asked the officials to prepare a roadmap to turn the city into a model for the country.
Warangal: The Central government has selected Warangal and fast-growing Siddipet to develop as model street vending cities.
Sanjay Kumar, joint secretary of National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM), the ministry of housing and urban affairs, interacted with the city vending committee members and officials on Monday about the measures being taken towards the development of street vendors and expressed satisfaction.
“The Centre will give cash rewards to the top three states implementing the Street Vendors Act in mission mode. The top three states would receive Rs 10 crore, Rs 5 crore and Rs 3 crore respectively,” said Mr Sanjay Kumar.
Mr Sanjay Kumar asked the officials to prepare a roadmap to turn the city into a model for the country.
As part of this, the city vending committee would identify all street vendors and issue licences to them acknowledging vending as a legitimate profession. The committee would also appoint an agency to earmark vending zones in the city.
All the registered street vendors would be brought under the ambit of the social security schemes including Arogyasri, bank loans, insurance, ration cards, educational facilities etc. Authorities will also organise skill development programmes for the vendors.
