BJP govt to oust city police chief?
Sources said that the BJP is planning a major surgery for the police department and it is likely to happen after the cabinet expansion this weekend.
Bengaluru: With the B.S. Yediyurappa-led BJP sailing through the floor test in the Assembly on Monday, a major reshuffle in the police department is expected with reports of even city police commissioner being replaced doing the rounds.
Sources said that the BJP is planning a major surgery for the police department and it is likely to happen after the cabinet expansion this weekend.
It is a general practice of all governments to bring in their men to plum posts. Mr Yediyurappa carried out major transfers in the department surgery soon after taking oat as chief minister on March 17, 2018. But he stepped down within 60 hours of taking the oath.
On Friday, after taking oath, Mr Yediyurappa instructed Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar to withhold all new projects and transfers made by the earlier JD(S)-Congress coalition government in July.
Sources said that one of the major transfers could be that of city police commissioner Alok Kumar, who was promoted as Additional Director General of Police and given the top post on June 17 this year.
The contenders for the post are many and it is still uncertain who the present government’s favourite is. The names doing rounds are 1990 batch IPS officer Kamal Pant, who is ADGP (Law & Order), his batchmate Bhaskar Rao, who is ADGP (KSRP), and 1991-batch IPS officer Sunil Agarwal, who is ADGP, Fire & Emergency Services Department.
