Chennai: Boy cycling to school fatally knocked down by mini bus
They attacked him ruthlessly and with the help of locals alerted the police.
Chennai: A speeding private mini-bus, driven in a rash manner, knocked down a 12-year-old school boy in Kamarajar Salai near Kancheepuram bus stand, on Monday morning.
The victim, K. Karthikeyan (12) was a class VII student of Tyagi middle school in Periya Kanchi. Karthikeyan, son of Kesava Raj, a temple token guy, is resident of Urban Selvi Street, Kancheepuram.
The accident happened at around 8 am on Monday when the victim was riding to school on his bicycle.
Police said when the boy was on Kamarajar Salai near Kancheepuram taluk office, a private mini-bus plying to villages in Kancheepuram from the bus depot, knocked his bicycle from behind.
In the impact, Karthikeyan was thrown off from the cycle, and died on the spot. Police said the bus driver attempted to flee, but Karthikeyan's friends who were following him to school, nabbed him.
They attacked him ruthlessly and with the help of locals alerted the police.
The Siva Kanchi police who arrived at the spot sent the boy's body to the Kancheepuram government hospital for post-mortem. A case was registered.
Meanwhile, locals staged a road roko demanding police to take stringent action on the driver.
They also said that private bus drivers drive their vehicles in a rash manner.
