Hyderabad: 1 lakh cusecs released for Jurala Project
Officials said that the full reservoir capacity of Almatti is 29.72 TMC and present water level is 122.27 TMC and inflow 76,305 cusecs.
Hyderabad: Heavy rainfall in Karnataka has improved the inflow of water into the Narayanpur and Jurala reservoirs in Telangana as inflows from Almatti reservoir will bring in 1 lakh cusec of water to the state.
Due to the low spell of rains in the state, farmers were tense as crops are in dire need of water and water level in the reservoirs was depleting at a very fast pace, leading the state to a stage where drinking water would have been available only for a year.
Dy. Chief Engineer of the Irrigation department Mr G.D. Narahari Babu told this newspaper that due to inflows from the upper stream of the Krishna river, Karnataka Irrigation officials communicated that one lakh cusecs of water has been released from the Almatti reservoir and is expected to reach the Jurala Project in Telangana state by Wednesday.
Earlier, only small quantities released reached the Narayanpur reservoir. Due to heavy rain in Maharashtra, Karnataka officials expect that inflows will continue into Jurala in the coming days from Almatti. He felt that the current expected inflow will not suffice for the need of the entire state but will recharge the level of groundwater.
Irrigation officials said that Chief Minister Mr K. Chandrasekar Rao keeps a close watch on inflows into reservoirs in the state and is regularly monitoring the situation.
Officials said that the full reservoir capacity of Almatti is 29.72 TMC and present water level is 122.27 TMC and inflow 76,305 cusecs. Narayanpur reservoir capacity is 37.63 TMC and water level in the reservoir is currently at 34.39 TMC and inflows at 86,243 cusecs.
The storage capacity of the Jurala reservoir is 9.66 TMC and as on date, water level of the reservoir is at 1.99 TMC and Inflow at 114 cusecs.
