Bhopal: In one of the first officially recorded cases of triple talaq after the Supreme Court declared that the practice of ‘instant divorce’ by Muslim men is unconstitutional, a woman from a minority community here approached the police to save her marriage after her husband gave her triple talaq for not making tea with milk. The police officials have sent her to the Gaurabi, a one-stop crisis centre for social problems, set up here to resolve such issues, to settle her problem with her hubby amicably and save her marriage, an official of the organisation said on Tuesday.

According to the centre’s coordinator, Shivani Saini, the triple talaq victim sought reunion with her husband, Afzal, who had pronounced triple talaq “in a fit of anger” for providing him black tea, instead of normal milk tea, on Monday. The woman prepared black tea for her husband after reportedly being denied money by him to purchase milk. Afzal was furious over being served black tea and reportedly pronounced triple talaq.

He then asked his wife to leave house forcing her to approach the local woman police station and lodged a complaint against him for deserting him. Police officials however advised her to first approach the one-stop crisis centre to resolve her problem. The Centre’s coordinator said that the couple was on Tuesday summoned for counseling to discuss their marital problems.
