Over 30 students have reportedly contracted food poisoning after eating the food served in the mess.
HYDERABAD: Over 30 students have reportedly contracted food poisoning after eating the food served in the mess of the Sri Chaitanya IAS Academy in Madinaguda. College authorities, however, deny the allegations. The Academy mess has been shifted from the ground floor to the first floor, because of flooding due to the heavy rainfall.
Mr Mazharudin, the principal of the academy, says, “We have been trying to drain the rainwater out of the mess, and the students have to accommodate by eating while standing. They claim that the first floor has not been cleaned and is unhygienic, but we are trying to do all that we can to ensure that we serve good food.” He adds that after charging students '2 lakh fees, the academy is not likely to compromise on the quality of food.
Meanwhile, students say that the mess has not been functioning properly since the past four days. Food has been ordered from outside, because of which many girls have fallen victim to food poisoning which is being manifested in the form of high fevers, digestive problems and nausea. After failing to provide adequate medical facilities, the academy has reportedly announced tat it will remain shut down for two days.
Parents have been asked to come and collect their wards. A few parents are protesting the irresponsible behaviour of members of the management. Students have not been provided drinking water, food, or bath water. While the parents were staging protests, Ms Bharati, the receptionist, suffered from a hypertensive attack and had to be taken to a hospital.
