Hyderabad: Transport minister Patnam Mahender Reddy on Tuesday said that only 27 RTC depots were making profits in the state even as the initiatives taken up by the TRS government has led to reduction in losses in another 54 depots.

Speaking at a meeting with TSRTC chairman S. Satyanarayana, transport department principal secretary Sunil Sharma, RTC MD G.V. Ramana Rao and others, the transport minister enquired about depot-wise profits and losses.

“As the RTC is facing a loss of Rs 480 crore from 96 depots every year, the government has sanctioned Rs 2,000 crore to give a boost to the corporation. While Karimnagar and Ranga Reddy regions are providing profits to the corporation, performance is poor from Medak and Mahbubnagar regions,” he said.

Mr Mahender Reddy also said that he would submit proposals to the Chief Minister for replacing of 1,100 old buses apart from seeking approvals to purchase 1,500 new buses for all regions.
