Bengaluru: A 10-foot-long python found in Banashankari 6th Block was rescued by the BBMP Wildlife team on Wednesday morning.

The Indian rock python was lying in the middle of the 80-feet road and was rescued after people informed the BBMP Wildlife Division.

Prasanna Kumar A., Wildlife Warden and BBMP wildlife rescuer, said, “The snake weighed 9.2 kg and is about 10-foot long. It has come from Surahalli minor forest as its habitats have been disturbed because of urbanisation.”

He said that sometimes during monsoon, reptiles struggle to find a safe habitat and end up around human habitats.

The city has recorded 27 species of wild animals and birds in its vicinity. “With this, the species list has gone up to 28. There is still a lot of bio-diversity left in and around the city. I request people to rescue them,” said Prasanna.

67 wildlife rescuers are working with the BBMP. People can call 9902794711 or mail to Kumar1989wildlife@gmail.com if they find any wildlife species, he said.

The rescued snake was shifted to the Bannerghatta Park.
