Flood relief from Centre in 2-3 days: B S Yediyurappa
The CM noted that although farmers were worried about a drought in the Cauvery basin, just a few days of rain in August had filled all its dams.
Mysuru: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa revealed here on Thursday that the state government expected Central funds in a few days to help it with relief operations in the flood- hit regions of Karnataka.
Recalling that a Central team had already visited the districts that were flooded in the recent deluge, he said, “ We are expecting the relief funds in two or three days. We will ask for more help when the Prime Minister visits the state on September 7.”
Mr Yediyurappa , who offered Baagina to river Cauvery as a gesture of thanksgiving to Mother nature at the Krishnara Raja Sagar dam in Mandya district , observed that the state was facing challenging times with floods in a few districts and drought in others. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has assured me that we will help all the people, who have lost homes and properties in the floods. I have requested him for funds several times,” he added .
The Chief Minister noted that although farmers were worried about a drought in the Cauvery basin, just a few days of rain in August had filled all its dams. “We have released all the water we were supposed to, to Tamil Nadu and are clearing the silt in the lakes in Mandya district to help recharge the groundwater,” he said.
Directing Mandya deputy commissioner, Dr M V Venkatesh to come up with a master plan for the comprehensive development of the KRS dam , he said he did not have to worry about funds for the project.
