A big ploy behind Vijaya Bank merger: PV Mohan

Mangaluru: Calling Vijaya Bank the pride of Dakshina Kannada, KPCC general secretary P.V. Mohan on Saturday strongly opposed the Union government's proposal to merge it with two other banks.
Speaking to reporters here, Mr Mohan claimed the move was meant to help the big corporate loan defaulters. "Indira Gandhi nationalised banks to help people. But the present government is merging profit making banks to help the corporates. There is a big ploy behind this move," he alleged.
Recalling that Vijaya bank was started in the district, he said it would lose its identity if merged with other banks. “ We strongly oppose any proposal to merge it with other banks. The bank is the pride of the district and will lose its identity if merged," he contended, urging MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who was closely related to it, to respond to the Union government’s proposal on its merger.
Moving on to the recent statement of RSS chief, Mohan Bhagavat that there was no Hindutva without Muslims, he claimed it was all hogwash and intended to appeal to voters.
“Mohan Bhagavat’s statement that there is no Hindutva without Muslims is all bogus. RSS knows the BJP is sinking and is making such statements to attract the uncertain voter,” he charged.
