Anti-demolition drive gathers pace

A total of six enforcement and vigilance teams split into three and removed permanent/semi-permanent and 748 movable encroachments.

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on Saturday embarked upon a major footpath encroachment removal programme from Hubsiguda crossroads to Malapert Railway Bridge and removed over 700 encroachments.

A total of six enforcement and vigilance teams split into three and removed permanent/semi-permanent and 748 movable encroachments. Each team had 20 officials and was equipped with JCBs and vehicles for debris removal.  With the seventh such drive, the corporation has removed more than 11,000 footpath encroachments across the city.

The drive has been conducted in co-ordination with the traffic and law and order police officials.  The corporation has removed 4,669 during the first drive and managed to remove as many as 11,871 encroachments with the seventh drive.
