ADILABAD: Many of the roads in villages and mandals have been washed away while some others have developed potholes due to the heavy rains that lashed many areas of old Adilabad district.
Villagers face a lot of inconvenience due to bad roads while many of the interior villages are cut off due to the washing away of some of the roads.
A tractor had to be deployed recently to shift a pregnant woman to a primary health center where she gave birth to a baby who died the same day in Jillela village in Penchikalpet mandal in Kumarambheem Asifabad district. It is said that the baby died because the mother had to be shifted in the tractor across the bad roads.
Some of the villagers have tried to fill up the potholes with gravel to make the road pliable. In some places, rain and wind uprooted bushes on either side of the road which now block the roads. Bushes have come up due to the heavy rains in the last 20 days. Within many of the villages, there was no sanitation. Due to the heavy rains, many of the local streams and rivulets were overflowing with floodwater. A family traveling in a bullock cart got struck in an overflowing stream, but was saved by the villagers who dragged the bullock cart out of the stream by tying it with ropes in Kura village Jainad mandal in Adilabad district.
