Begumpet: With 0 crimes, Motilal Colony wins accolades
This is one of the oldest colonies with 110 households.
Hyderabad: The 40-year-old Motilal Nehru Colony in Begumpet has been recognised as the best colony by the Hyderabad police for having zero crime. The colony, which has about 110 households, has been able to prevent house break ins, women harrassement, civil property disputes and civic problems. The award was conferred on the colony.
Mr G. Srinivas, the president of the Resident Welfare Association, Motilal Nehru Colony, said, “It is one of the oldest colonies in Hyderabad. The layout was planned in the early 60s. Earlier, the colony had 50 bungalows. However, gated communities increased of late. The entire colony is under CCTV surveillance. Each bungalow and apartment has installed a camera. We are yet to connect to the recordings with the police control room. We have a single entry with security guards at most houses.”
The last burglary was reported three years back in the colony and the thief was caught following the CCTV footages. “Armed robbers do not venture into our colony as they are sure of being caught,” Srinivas said.
The resident welfare association has regular meetings with the police, GHMC and the water board. The colony has no civil disputes and no encroachments.
Colony women play an active role. There is no eve-teasing, drunk menace or hawkers in the colony. Venkateshwar Rao, DCP (west zone), added, “The police is asked to conduct regular meetings with the RWA. All issues related to law and order are taken up, while the civic matters are directed to the GHMC.”
